Nick's Fish Bar, Ashby-de-la-Zouch

Nick's Fish Bar is a very popular destination for chip fans in Northwest Leicestershire.

It's set back from the road but a handy Pukka Pies sign helps point you in the right direction. Their own car park out front is decorated with many flower troughs.

The shop is modern with a high tech menu scrolling on screens above the counter.
Fish on the menu is Haddock, Cod, Plaice, Scampi and Cod Roe.
There is a meal deal for £4.50 which comprised of a mini fish, chips and peas/curry/beans/gravy.
The meal deal proved to be very good value as the fish portion was generous for a mini size.

Both the fish and chips were very fresh and served piping hot.
All the Chip Fiends chose haddock, two full size and one as part of the meal deal.

One of the Chip Fiends found the batter to be thick and didn't eat all of it but agreed that the fish inside was perfectly cooked.
Batter style varies and is a personal preference to whether it's served thick or thin. Another Chip Fiend agreed it was a little thick but loved the crispness and lightness of it.

The chips were of a medium thickness and were cooked to perfection. No starch.

Nick's Fish Bar is definitely a takeaway that deserves repeated visits.
